Harvansh Singh Pangalia, the India U-19 wicketkeeper, lives by a simple yet powerful mantra: "Trying to do better." This mantra, drawn from a memorable scene in the Spider-Man movie, fuels his dedication and ambition on and off the cricket field.
Harvansh Singh's Instagram showcases his dedication to self-improvement.
Harvansh, a self-proclaimed Marvel fan, finds inspiration in a dialogue from Tobey Maguire's "Spider-Man 2." In the movie, Peter Parker responds to a critique with the simple phrase, "Trying to do better." This line resonates deeply with Harvansh, who sees it as a constant reminder to strive for improvement.
"There's something about that scene, that dialogue," Harvansh told TimesofIndia.com. "The answer gives me goosebumps."
The 18-year-old recently demonstrated his explosive batting talent in a practice match against Young Lions Invitational XI. Coming in with the score at 251/7, he blazed a trail to a rapid century off just 52 balls, hitting nine sixes and propelling India to a massive total of 442/9.
When asked about his incredible innings, the teenager himself was at a loss to explain it.
"I was struggling," Harvansh admitted. "The first five balls I faced, I was all at sea, failing to connect a single one. I was batting on 13 off 23 balls. I was just not able to find the gaps, and I was getting frustrated. But then something happened. Something snapped, aap keh sakte ho ki mata aa gayi (you could say I was possessed!)," Harvansh laughed.
Harvansh's journey is one of dedication and sacrifice. Hailing from Gandhidham, Gujarat, he was inspired by his father and uncle, both former wicketkeepers. While his father now works as a truck driver in Canada, Harvansh remains in India with his mother to pursue his cricketing dream.

"Whenever I step out to bat, I see the faces of my mother and father," he said. "One lives in Gandhidham, while the other is in Brampton...They have sacrificed so much for me."
Harvansh is determined to reunite his parents and is confident that he will achieve his goals.
Harvansh draws inspiration from cricketing legend Yuvraj Singh, admiring his resilience and determination during the 2011 World Cup. He also looks up to the late Kobe Bryant and his "Mamba Mentality," emphasizing the importance of work ethic and mental fortitude. He is inspired by Virat Kohli's post-match interview after winning the IPL for RCB, where Kohli emphasized that one can only earn respect by playing Test cricket
"I admire Yuvraj Singh... I adore his mentality about how he won the World Cup for the country while battling cancer," said Harvansh. "The sportsperson I liked the most is the late Kobe Bryant...No athlete can match his work ethic."

Harvansh believes that mentality and self-belief are crucial for success at the highest level. He dreams of playing Test cricket for India.
"Test ka naam test hai because it tests your character," he said. "I love playing four-day cricket. That's the ultimate cricket."
While his teammates have already tasted IPL success, Harvansh remains focused on his own journey.
"They are my friends...I am happy for them. They do inspire all of us, but everyone has a different path," he said. "Mera bhi time aayega (My time will come as well)."
India U19 will face England U19 in the first Youth ODI at Hove on Friday.
