Jasprit Bumrah, currently ranked as the world's No. 1 Test bowler, spearheaded India's bowling attack in the recent first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Despite his impressive haul of five wickets in the first innings, India succumbed to a five-wicket defeat in the series opener.
Bumrah, the recipient of the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year award, recently made an appearance on Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra's show 'Who's The Boss' alongside his wife, Sanjana Ganesan. A promo clip from the episode reveals a hilarious pre-marriage exchange where Sanjana playfully teased Bumrah.
Ganesan, a prominent sports presenter who tied the knot with Bumrah in March 2021, humorously recounted: "Tum run-up per bhi nahi bhagte ho. Tum mere sath kya bhagoge?" (You don't even run during your run-up. So how will you run with me?). This witty remark was in response to Bumrah's suggestion that they elope before their wedding.
Bumrah's participation in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham, scheduled from July 2 to 6, remains uncertain. The Indian team management, including chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill, and Bumrah himself, have confirmed that he will only play three matches out of the five-match series against England.
During the first Test, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar playfully urged Sanjana, who was the on-field presenter, to persuade Bumrah to participate in all five matches for India, acknowledging his stellar performance in the first Test. However, the team management has remained tight-lipped about which two Tests Bumrah will be sitting out.
Bumrah's Test cricket record in England showcases his prowess, with 42 wickets taken in nine matches. He currently holds the position of the third-highest wicket-taker for India in England, trailing behind only Ishant Sharma and Kapil Dev.
Ishant Sharma leads the pack with 48 wickets from 14 Tests in England, while Kapil Dev has secured 43 wickets in 13 Test matches on English soil.
