Once celebrated as Indian cricket's rising star, Prithvi Shaw is now navigating a challenging phase in his career. At 15, he was already breaking records, and by 18, he captained India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup. His Test debut century further solidified his potential.
However, success brought with it distractions. Shaw has acknowledged a loss of focus, citing negative influences and declining discipline that led him away from the sport. Consequently, he began missing practice sessions and prioritizing less important things. This decline resulted in him being dropped from the Mumbai Ranji team and going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
During this difficult period, Sachin Tendulkar, a cricketing icon who has observed Shaw's development alongside his son Arjun, offered unwavering support.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too," Shaw shared with News24.
Tendulkar's guidance served as a crucial source of motivation. He continues to believe in Shaw's capabilities, urging him to "Get back on track, like you were before." Tendulkar emphasized that the next 13-14 years hold immense possibilities for Shaw.
These encouraging words have instilled renewed hope in Shaw.
At 25, Shaw is actively working to revitalize his career. He has left Mumbai cricket to join Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start. Acknowledging his past mistakes, he is committed to hard work and aims to reclaim his lost potential.
Whether this marks a complete resurgence remains to be seen. However, Shaw is confronting his challenges head-on. With the support of figures like Sachin Tendulkar, he has a significant opportunity for redemption.
