Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the verge of etching his name in cricketing history. He needs just 97 more runs to become the quickest Indian batsman to amass 2,000 Test runs. The young left-hander has the opportunity to eclipse Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing, 49-year-old record when India squares off against England in the second Test at Edgbaston, commencing on July 2nd.

Jaiswal's consistency has been a major positive for India amidst a challenging transitional period in Test cricket. He recently demonstrated his brilliance with a superb century in the first Test at Headingley, although his efforts weren't enough to prevent India from succumbing to a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting England a formidable target of 371 runs, India was stunned by the composed chase led by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, handing England a 1-0 advantage in the five-match series.
However, Jaiswal's individual form remains a beacon of hope for India as they seek to retaliate at Edgbaston. In only 20 Test matches, he has already accumulated 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs is held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test back in 1976. Gavaskar further solidified his legacy by becoming the first cricketer to ever score 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow on the list, having reached the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant strokeplay and remarkable composure, Jaiswal now has the opportunity to not only join but surpass these cricketing giants, providing India with a much-needed boost in what is a crucial must-win Test match.
