Spelling Variations
If
your Rogers ancestors' last name is spelled "incorrectly" here, please
forgive me. Any one who has reviewed a number of historical documents has found
the name spelled differently at various times depending on who the recorder was.
Here is a good example using Jesse Rogers b. 1791. He was the son of John
"TPM" Rogers.
In
the 1850 Census: Jesse Roggers, FinleyTownship, Greene Co, MO
In the 1860 Census: Jesse Rodgers, TaylorTownship, Greene Co, MO
In the 1870 Census: Jesse Rogers, TaylorTownship, Greene Co, MO
Which spelling is correct? Take your pick. As far as I'm concerned, Rogers is
Rodgers is Roggers.
