Montgomery Co, VA Court Summons of Benjamin Rogers
Montgomery Co, VA Court Summons of Benjamin Rogers provided by Benamin Marchi
This document dated 5 Feb 1785 documents that Benjamin Rogers found a mare on his Plantation on Cripple Creek eight miles above the Lead Mines. The document is signed by Adam Dean who was a neighbor of Benjamin and was a Justice of Montgomery Co, VA at the time. Document provided by Benjamin Marchi.
This document is very interesting in that it shows our ancestors also were aware of the importance of recycling. Note that this preprinted document was originally printed while Virginia was a British colony. Three years after Independence the document was still being used. You will note that the local Virginia official simply crossed out: "George the Third, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith" and wrote in: "The Commonwealth of Virginia". Likewise: "in the _____ year of our Reign" became: "in the _____ year of The Commonwealth of Virginia".
