Subject: Re: Spanish American war

Tom,

(It was the Mexican War/Spanish American War was in 1898 and my Dad's oldest brother, William A. Rodgers, fought in this war.)

According to the Kentucky Adjutant General's Report:

Two companies were organized in Adair County. Edgar B. Gaither organized one company, but no roster remains. The second Company was organized by Capt. John S. "Jack" Squires. (No doubt, this is probably Cindy's ancestor) Company B, Fourth Regiment, of Kentucky Foot Volunteers, was organized at Columbia, KY in Sep of 1847 and marched to Louisville, where it arrived on 2 October 1847. The men were mustered in on October 3, 1847 and mustered out at Louisville on 25 July 1848. Among those listed as died in action were: Capt. John S. Squires in City of Mexico on 20th March 1848 and John W. Rogers in Jalapa Mexico on 22 May 1848. John's son (Windle's brother) George A. Rogers served in this war but he survived.

Barbara
