Happy Thanksgiving. I got my initial information from my cousin. It could be incorrect. I also found a line off of Bethsheba Haile and Reuben Rogers in a Familytree Maker CD. But thru sharing information off it with other people, I have found alot of mistakes.

I will check with my cousin to see what his source is. I am a descendant of Reuben's son Samuel Rogers and Alscy Vine. They were married in Washington County. Their son James Robert Rogers and Mary Hannah Skaggs are my Great Grandparents. Their son Clinton Franklin Rogers and Anna Jane Adams are my grandparents. Their son Melvin Harvey Rogers and Marcella Lemmons are my parents.

Also I would like to let you know, my family lives in Cleveland, TN. If you are related to us, I'm sure they would be happy to meet you. Our parents died when I was 8 years old and we were all separated and lived with people other than blood relatives. We would love to know some family, that is why I started looking into genealogy. The cousin that I referred to above found me in a Rogers site in Madison County Missouri. He knew my grandparents and has shared several pictures and stories with me. He has mainly researched the Skaggs side of his family, but he does have some Rogers information.

Thank you,

Sandra Rivera

Jerry,

This Samuel Rogers, who is buried in the Whitewater Christian Cemetery in Perry Co., MO. was born 2 Apr 1784, and died 5 May 1877. His wife, Jemima, was born 27 May 1874-18 June 1858. These dates are on the tombstones which are still standing in the cemetery.

This cemetery is also where Alsie Vine Rogers (Wife of Samuel, son of Reuben & Bethsheba is buried) 20 Feb 1814 in VA. - 5 Aug 1886. I have run into people who have lumped the two Samuels together. Samuel was born about 1812-14 and married Alsie. They are two totally different people. Samuel son of Reuben as far as I know did not come to Missouri. He supposedly was killed or hung during the Civil War. This has been handed down in my family coming from my Great-Great Uncle Lee Rogers. However Alsie and three of her children: Harriet S. (Sandy Mackley), James Robert (Myself & Sandy Rivera) & John Franklin (Earl Query) all came to Missouri. Harriet was married on 22 Aug 1866 in Perry Co., MO.

Dear Jerry,

NEW INFORMATION!! I will send this out to the group later, I was just excited and wanted to ask you immediately - I found a prison record for Samuel Rogers (b. 1816) son of Maj. Reuben Rogers of Washington County. In it, he states "he has once uncle who lives in Indiana on the waters of White River, also one in Clayburn County Powell's Valley, Tenn." So going back to the list of children of Joseph Rogers, the one in Indiana is obviously Elijah. Who is the uncle in Claiborne County? The only other uncle we had listed was a guess.

Jeremiah who married Sarah Springs. (He was in the same district on Tax Lists for 3 years with Joseph and Reuben and Elijah and with no land of his own.) This prison record was in December 1837. Who is the uncle in Claiborne County ???????????? (None of his mother's brothers, the Hales, lived there. This has to be a missing child of Joseph!)

My cousin who told me this, Cleon Rogers, is probably close to 80. His Dad, was Uncle Lee Rogers who married Ida Umfleet. Lee told his kids that his Grandpa Rogers was hung during the Civil War...BUT he did not say for what. So it sort of matches what Floyd James heard. My instinct tells me that there is truth to that story BUT what truth, well, I would like to know where the family was living in 1860.

That would place them close to the civil war start date. I know my mother's family that came from Hancock Co.< TN. NE Tenn was a union stronghold. My great great grandpa Howell was a member of Co H 8th Tenn Vol Cav USA...........He joined up there. His brother in law was drug out during the war and killed in front of his family. All of this for Samuel Rogers is possible and plausible, as well as probable.

Washington Co.,TN ,on line, lists Samuel and Alsay md June 01, 1838. I found this curious when his prison discharge was listed as Dec. 1838.
