An article on Reuben Rogers from "History of Washington Co TN 1988", published by WAG.

Reuben, supposedly a son or grandson of Benjamin, was born 1780-90 in Blount Co TN. In 1799 he enlisted in the Blount Co Militia. The 1830 census lists him as Major Reuben Rogers. Nov 14, 1812, he married Bathsheba Haile. They had six children. Four are listed in the settlement of his estate: Samuel, Minerva, Carloine and Joseph. Reuben died April 19, 1867, Washington Co TN.

Joseph, son of Reuben, was born 1813 in Washington Co TN. Sept 1, 1833 he married Rachel Lowrance. According to the census they had nine children:

Elihue, Minerva, Samuel, Elizabeth, Margaret, Reuben, Eveline, Joseph and Mary.

In the article there is more info on Elihue, son of Joseph listed above, and his children if anyone is interested in these names please let me know.

Does this article shed any light on which Reuben he is, I thought he was the son of John the Powder Maker since he was born in Bount Co and listed as Major in 1830 census.

Dear Jerry,

I'd like to become one of the contacts on your site if you think that's appropriate. I'm descended from Joseph Rogers (born 1813 in Washington Co., TN) through his daughter, Margaret Elvira Rogers who married Nathaniel Jackson Smith. I believe Joseph's father was Reuben Rogers, but do you think they're descended from Benjamin Rogers? I can add a LITTLE more to the information on Joseph and Margaret. Firstly, Margaret's middle name was Elvira according to her tombstone. I would like to find out why her name is Margaret Elizabeth on your site. Was it a guess or does someone have some information, a Bible entry or something of that sort? I'd like to talk to anyone who has some knowledge of her because this site affords the first opportunity I've found to be in contact with her family. Margaret was born August 19, 1850 in Washington Co., TN, was married January 10, l866 in Washington Co., TN, and died May 10, 1917 in Greene Co., TN. Her children were: Mary E. Alice, married Henry Keller; John A., married Minnie Job; Victoria Virginia, married Marion Mitchell; Joseph Edward, married Elizabeth Jane Keller; Jencey K., Sarah E., and William H. all died in childhood; Ella Louisa, married Frank Broyles; Myrtle H., married Lee Christian; and Henry, married Alice. Joseph Rogers' youngest daughter, Mary J., married John R. M. Smith in Washington Co., TN on Oct. 12, 1879. John Smith and Nathaniel Smith (Margaret's husband) were brothers from Sullivan Co., TN. Joseph Rogers was in the home of Mary J. (Rogers) and John Smith in Sullivan Co. in the 1880 census. I have exact birth and death dates for Joseph Rogers that I got in a mysterious way, so I don't know what to think of them. I have a tree on Ancestry.com. If Ancestry has information of any kind about the people on your tree, a fluttering leaf appears beside the name. One of those appeared next to Joseph's name; I clicked on it and was told "according to our information" that he was born Jan. 16, 1813 in Washington Co., TN and died 29 Nov., 1880 in Washington Co., TN. Fluttering leaves no longer appear beside his name but they do beside everyone else's name. One of my cousins has suggested I was slipped a "cookie" or some such.

Anyway, thanks for organizing this very interesting site. By the way, I've tried to contact Kristin Whitson to ask to see the signatures she found with the 1837 court papers regarding the death of Mr. Bayles....both interesting and shocking. So far, I haven't heard from her. Do you know if she is still involved with this site?
