My husband was born 2/3/45 and I was born 8/5/46 both in Springfield. A few years ago I became interested in genealogy. I have been trying to find out about his great-great grandfather & will continue to search for his family.

At any rate, Mourning Cosby married Marvin T. Alderson in Greene Co., Mo in 1850. This by the way was the same day Stokley Rowan Watts was married, by the same minister. For years I had believed Mourning Cosby was Mourning Rogers. Any information you have regarding the family would be appreciated.

My husband is the great------grandson of Anna - Martha Emeline Rogers, Rogers, Alderson, whose first husband was James Gray Rogers. I have photos of them together & separate on tintypes! Martha E. father was James Reuben Rogers, TN. I believe these two Rogers families are not related. Do you know about them?

Our people are so intertwined with the Rogers & the Watts it gets confusing. Nevertheless, Marvin Alderson and his younger sister lived with John C. Clark and Polly (Watts) Clark. She may have been his mother. I cannot prove it.

Dear Jerry,

What I thought was a new and different was that Mourning Rogers was born Mourning Cosby! Here is why I do not believe that any longer. In MO Newspaper Obituaries, page 38 it says, Cosby, William D. died in Santa Fe about 25 April, in his 24th year. Volunteer from Ste. Genevieve Co. (MORE 24 June 1847)

In the Greene Co. Missouri Marriages - Book A

Alderson, Marvin Trass - Mourning COSBY m. 10 November, 1850 by Wm. Watts JP certificate #4..1011 Witnesses: John Clark, Jesse Rogers and others.

Also, I found (but can't find my proof) that William D. Cosby was born in 1823, died 4/25/1847 and is of course buried in Watts Cemetery. Evidently killed in combat.

What do you think? I think Mourning Rogers first married Wm.D. Cosby, and in 1850 she married Marvin Alderson.

They had at least four children that lived to be adults, correction one of these lived to be 10 years old.

first came Jesse G. Rogers then Malinda Mourning Rogers she married Marvin Alderson. Then they had a son, named James Wesley Alderson, James Wesley Alderson 2nd wife was Martha Emeline Rogers Rogers Alderson. Martha Emeline Rogers Rogers Alderson was 1st married to James Gray Rogers.

Anyhow, James Alderson & Martha Emeline had one son, named Ira Rowan Alderson, my father-in-law.

The Rogers children and he were half-brothers and sister. Martha Emeline Rogers married James Gray Rogers on 9/1/1868, book IV page 79 Christain Co.MO.

Martha and James Rogers had William Albert "Ab" Rogers, 11/28/1878; James Reuben Rogers b. 1/9/1878, d. 1927, married Hattie ? ; Thomas Fletcher Rogers b. 10/11/1880, d. 11/21/1917, m. Etta Humble; Arthur Newton Rogers, b. 7/4/1883, d. 9/9/1883 ; Eda Ann Rogers b. 5/28/1884 , she was married many times and never had any children. My sister-in-law, Ruby Alderson Robison says he last husband possibly murdered her. I haven't checked in it yet.

Last was Mary Rogers b. 8/3/1881, d. 9/29/1882.

This is all I can think of at the present. I am sure we are the same family. Let me know if you want further information or whatever. We are purchasing a good quality scanner.
