My mother is a Rogers and she was descended from Jesse William Rogers. We live in Minnesota. I have only really started my research on my mother's side. I am so glad I found your site.
Harvey Pue Rogers my great grandfather did mention a John the powder something but I could not remember, until I found your site. I have been stuck on Jesse William.

Jesse William Rogers, son of Jesse Rogers and Elizabeth EVANS, was born 6 Aug 1812 in TN, died 24 Dec 1903 Elmtown, Anderson Co, TX, at age 91. He is buried in Elmtown Cem, Anderson Co, TX.
General Notes:
Stories from Harvey Pue Rogers. Jesse William Rogers was born before Jesse and Elizabeth were married. Jesse married Elizabeth when she was 14 years old and had 10 Children after Jesse William was born.
In a letter dated April 5, 1989, from Mary Sue Smith Chase Ruddick to R. Dyon Rogers, Mary Sue states the following: "The story I have on the Bible of Jesse William Rogers is that he was living in the home of Uncle Ben Rogers when he died and is buried in Elmwood [Elmtown] Ceme. Elmtown, Anderson Co, TX, near Palestine, Anderson Co. May Rogers (Ethel May) took my sisters and me out to visit the grave and we found the head stone broken so we loaded it into May's car and she had a new marker made and put on his grave. Leo, George, and I visited it last time we were in Tex. Well Uncle Ben gave the Bible to May Rogers she and my sister Myrtie Roberts had done family research together. So when May knew she was breaking up house keeping (moving into the Sam Raburn complex in Dallas), she gave the Bible to Myrtie Roberts who in turn gave it to me.
I have it in my possession. I checked it this morning it is very fragile as you know it is very old. The 2nd page you wanted a copy of the birth records looks like it has been erased, so there is nothing to copy on that page but the birth of Benjamin Franklin Rogers (Uncle Ben) born Dec 9 1847 it just says Benjamin F. It is still attached to the first page at the bottom of the sheet. I will in turn give it to my son Richard Chase who lives in Cottonwood, Ariz. 86326 P.O. Box 368. as he has helped me do much research."
R. Dyon Rogers has visited Jesse's gravesite. The Elmtown Cemetary is no longer active.....it is located in a cow pasture, west of the highway.
