Mary (Polly) Lewis Rogers stated that she married Major David in March 1800 on her application for a widows pension, dated Jan. 18, 1872. She said she was married by Rev. William Rogers at William Rogers home. This application was witnessed by her sons Jesse and Henderson, also a nephew, David W. Rogers and a Joseph Hunter. Because this child born out of wedlock, she might have fudged a couple years on this application. The wedding probably took place in March 1802.

Kay, thanks again for the good information you have dug up. I've taken a look at the folks involved to see if I could determine who they all are. I have annotated my findings in ( ). I welcome your comments and any additional information:
I am not sure when the sale was held but the inventory was submitted to the court by Willis D Alder, Admin. It was sworn to and subscribed in open court on the 6th day of March 1843.
In attendance was Dr James Rogers (This must be Dr. James Asbury Rogers b. ca 1821, son of Dr Rev William Rogers b. 1777........Asbury is a good Methodist name.) who bought a sorrel horse and some clamps. He spent $20.63 1/2. Pleasant Rogers (Pleasant M. Rogers b. 9 Sep 1809, son of Maj David b. 1779) hired Sarah for $15. Hugh SW (This has to be Hugh Lawson White Rogers b. 22 Feb 1822, son of Maj David. The S.W. must be an error in transcribing some where along the line. He went to NE MO after July 1853) bought 3 sythe blades for. 0.57
Dr Wm Rogers (Dr. Rev. William Rogers b. 1777, son of John "TPM") bought gears, rifle, gun pouch & horn, 3 cat stacks and one tea board total $16.45.
David W. (David William Rogers b. 1799, son of Dr. Rev William Rogers. David W. was William's first son and was surely named after William's brother, Maj David. Note that Maj David named his first son, William.) bought a wagon and a lot of old barrels for $8.62 1/2.
F H (Could be French Haggard b. 1795 who married Elizabeth Rogers b. 1796, I assume this is the oldest daughter of Dr. Rev William Rogers, but I could be wrong on that point.) bought 5 bottles, 39 head of stock hogs, 175 lbs of quality corn for $26.50.
Jesse (This is not Jesse b. 3 Mar 1791, son of John "TPM" since he was already gone to Marion County, Tennessee in 1826 and then to Greene Co, MO in 1845. This Jesse must be Jesse Lafayette "Mut" Rogers b. 6 Oct 1811, son of Maj David.) brought a plow, sythe, old chains and lumber, tea dish, 2prs gears total $4.27 1/2.
David (Probably Major David b. 1779, son of John "TPM") bought a wagon for $30.20.
David F (David Franklin Rogers b. 20 Oct 1813, son of Maj David) bought 1curring knife and 1 oats stacks for $16.82 1/2.
PH Rogers (The only P. H. Rogers I have is Patrick Henry Rogers b. 8 Jan 1825, granddon of Maj David and son of William G. Rogers b. 15 Jun 1801. By 1855, Patrick Henry Rogers was in Polk Co, MO which is just north of Greene Co, MO) spent 0.46 1/2 for some turpentine and a clamp.
MM (Madison M. Rogers b. 3 May 1819 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. We don't yet know who his parents were, but it is becoming more and more likely that he is a grandson of John "TPM") bought 1 lot of stock pigs for $10.12 1/2.
Also Amos and Fountain Maupin were there. (Fountain Maupin b. 11 Jul 1806 was the husband of Elizabeth Rogers b. 30 Nov 1817 and was the only dau of Maj David. Fountain had an uncle named Amos. You can find more on Fountain and Elizabeth at: http:/www.rootsweb.com/~tncampbe/misc/hbook.htm )
Page 107 Settlement of the estate of Wm Rogers decd May 17th, 1839 (Dr. Rev William Rogers b. 1777. He actually died 6 Jun 1836). David W and Wm F Rogers (David William Rogers b. 1799 and William Fletcher Rogers b. ca 1815 ....another good Methodist name....both sons of Dr. Rev. William b. 1777)
were the executors of the last will & testament of WM Rogers decd and entered into a settlement of said estate agreeable to the act of assembly passed Jan. 1838. They found the estate was indebted to diverse persons, some by book account, to some by notes, to some by judgements and amounting in all to the sum of $1,436.03 1/2. They paid said debts and presented the inventory of paid bills to the court. signed by David W Rogers and W F Rogers, Executors
In this same document is the following statement.....A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of John Rogers (John "TPM" Rogers, son of Benjamin "the Immigrant". He died 5 Jan 1822) decd was proved in open court by the oath of William Rogers (Must have been Dr. Rev. William Rogers b.
1777, the son of John "TPM") and Benjamin R Rogers (There are two possiblilities here. John's brother, Benjamin b. 29 Jan 1756 who was living in nearby Campbell Co or John's son Benjamin b. ca 1804 who moved in Washington Co after marrying his cousin Artemesa Rogers in 1828. If the initial is correct, it must be the son since Benjamin the brother had no middle initial.) subscribing witnesses thereto who swore they saw John Rogers sign, seal and declare the same to be his last will and testament and that he was of sound mind and memory at the time of executing the same. Whereupon it was admitted to record and ordered to be registered. Friday the 8th of February 1822.
June term 1803 Mary Rogers and Moses Madgaden were ordered to administer estate of Cornelia Rogers. Doesn't give a death date for him. (I have no clue on any of these three.......does anyone else?)
Feb term 1812 WM Rogers applied for permit to sell liquor. In 1813 WM Rogers resigned his office of justice. (If both of these are Dr. Rev. William, it would be interesting......won't it?)
MM Rogers grantor to Stephen Cawood Grantee D 1836 Book X PG 521 $800. Madison is 17 yrs old at this time. Where would he get land??? (Looks like Madison M. Rogers and Stephen Cawood, Jr. b. Jan 1800. Stephen Cawood, Sr. died 3 Feb 1806.)

I think Jerry was right on most of the ID's. The following are my ideas.
Jerry wrote: Dr Wm Rogers (Dr. Rev. William Rogers b. 1777, son of John "TPM") bought gears, rifle, gun pouch & horn, 3 cat stacks and one tea board total $16.45.
Rev. Dr. Wm. Rogers b. 1777-1836 was deceased at this time. I believe the Dr. Wm. Rogers in this case was Major David's son Wm Rogers 1801-1862.
Jerry wrote: F H (Could be French Haggard b. 1795 who married Elizabeth Rogers b. 1796, I assume this is the oldest daughter of Dr. Rev William Rogers, but I could be wrong on that point.) bought 5 bottles, 39 head of stock hogs, 175 lbs of quality corn for $26.50.
This should be French Haggard Rogers, 1820-1908, grandson of Rev. Dr. William, son of David W. Rogers.
Kay,
I have seen the film you are trying to read. This was transcribed by the WPA in the 30's. The ink is smudged and has bled thru the paper. I believe the original record was also filmed by the LDS. You might try ordering that film.

(Obituary from a clipping in an 1854 Bible in Mary Lea Forsythe's possession, which was passed down to her from Mary Ann CRAWFORD, a daughter of Patrick Henry ROGERS; the Bible appears to have originated in the CRAWFORD family.)
Obituary:
Sarah Rogers, the subject of this notice, was born in Washington county, VA, on the 6fth day of July, 1806. Her parents moved to Claiborn county, Tenn., when she was nine years of age, and at the age of fifteen she united with the Methodist church. She was married to Wm. Roger in 1825, and settled near Speedwell, Claiborn county, where they raised a family of twelve children. Her husband dying in the year 1862, sister Rogers emigrated to Missouri, and for years had been an acceptable member of the Methodist church in the vicinity of Black Oak and Cowgill. After several years' suffering, death relieved her happy spirit on the second day of January, 1893. Very few people live as long in the church of God on earth as this old sister, who was for about 72 years a soldier of the cross. I called to see her some weeks before she died, and found her full of faith and hope. She was anxious to cross over, her lamp was trimmed and burning, and not a cloud seemed to obscure her pathway. While it is always sad to give up a mother, yet we cannot but feel comforted to know that her sufferings are over, and that after so man long years of journeying she has at last reached the goal. Rev. R.W. Howerton.
