Suzanne,
I was finely able to travel to Plattsburg yesterday afternoon. When I arrived the court house was closed for lunch. As I was strolling down the street, looking for a bite to eat, I found a office with a sign Genealogy on the door. Inside I found a very nice lady, Helen Russell, who opens the Genealogy office every Monday. I was able to check out the Cemetery Records (tombstone readings) of Clinton County. The following Rogers are buried in Barnesville Cemetery:
Isaac N. (11/22/1815-6/24/1873)
Martha J. wife of I. N. (2/18/1820-7 /14 1896)
James C. (1839-1910)
Emeline C. wife of James C. (1841-1914)
Amanda dau of I.N. & M.J. (1/25/1850-4/11/1854)
Wilmoth dau of I.N. & M.J. (12/13/1854- 4/30/1856)
Henry E. son of I.N. & M.J. (44/19/1859-1865)
Lucie Bell wife of Jas. H. Poston, dau of I.N. & M.J. Rogers (1/1/1857-6/13/1889)
I looked at a printed record of the 1880 census of Clinton County and didn’t find John F. Rogers. The 1870 census I found John F. Rogers 26 WM MO., Mary 18 WF TN., Charles 8/12 WM MO. The 1860 census Isaac Newton Rogers & family is listed on page 103 & 104 of Jackson T/S Clinton Co., MO. Page 103, line 26, I.N. Rogers, 42, M, Farmer, Tenn line 27, Martha J., 39, F, KY

line 30. David H., 16 M, Tenn

line 1, John F., 15, M, MO
line 2, Emily M., 13, F, MO

line 5, Henry L, 1, M, MO
I checked the land records and found Isaac Newton Rogers purchased his land in 1846. His brother Hugh Lawson White Rogers and his family is recorded living next to Isaac Newton in the 1860 census.
In the Recorders office in the Clinton Co. courthouse I found an Atlas book listing Patrons of Clinton County. This book is like a business directory of Clinton County in 1876. It lists Names, PO, Business, Year of settlement, and most importantly where they moved from. No descendants of Isaac Newton Rogers are listed but Hugh Lawson White Rogers is listed living in T/S 55N, Range 30W, PO Lathrop, Farmer, 1856, from Claiborne County Tennessee.
A book, Old Speedwell Families Revised and Updated by Lawrence Edwards and Joy Edwards Davis lists the Rogers Family on pages 439-488. Speedwell is located in southern part of Claiborne Co., near the Campbell Co. line. Major David Rogers family consists of 11 sons and one daughter. Isaac Newton was son # 7 and Hugh Lawson White was son # 9.
John Franklin Rogers who married Mary A. Kincaid is listed on page 454 as a child of Isaac Newton Rogers and Martha Jane Todd
I went to the Probate Court office to check out the will of Isaac Newton Rogers. I found he died without leaving a will. They did have a probate record for the settlement of his estate. His eldest son James C. Rogers was named administrator of the estate. The final settlement of the estate, filed 9 May 1876, lists the following heirs:
L. B.(Lucy Belle) Rogers
Sallie W. Rogers
Emily M.(Rogers) Evans
J. R. Green (Guardian of Newton M. Rogers) minor child
Martha J.(Jane) Rogers (Wife)
J. F.(John Franklin) Rogers
David H. (Henderson) Rogers
Wm H. (William Henderson) Rogers
J. C. (James Canada) Rogers
I hope this helps you connect your John Franklin Rogers to our Rogers family tree.
Ray
