Gail, and all. Unfortunately, I didn't have to look far to find a couple of sources which contradict the marriage of Isaac Pennington to another wife after Mary.
The following article is a "statement of genealogists at Swarthmore," sent to me by Robert Mills of Princeton, NJ. It essentially agrees with the book _Colonial Families of Philadelphia_ ed. by John W. Jordan, LL.D., Vol. 1, p. 574. I can post that or send it, if anyone wants to see it as well. Both sources indicate that Isaac Pennington left widow Mary Proude Springett Pennington when he died in 1679. She is said to have died in 1682, and made a will in 1680. I have not done any first-hand research on this, but both documents seem to come from credible sources. I'm afraid this means we still do not know who our Rachel Pennington's parents were. Edward Beeson and wife Rachel Pennington?
Edward Beeson, son of Thomas and Ann Beeson, was baptized 24 Feb. 1660, somewhere in the vicinity of Lancaster in the north of England. He married 7 Nov. 1682 in the Parish of Thressington, supposedly to Rachel Pennington, and they came to America sometime between 1682 and 1701. They settled on land to the east of the present city of Wilmington, Delaware, along Shellpot Creek.
Sometime after 16 Nov. 1706 the family removed to West Nottingham Township, along the Pennsylvania-Maryland border placed by the Mason-Dixon line in 1767. There is no record that Edward Beeson was a member of the Society of Friends.
Many people have stated that Rachel Pennington was the half-sister of Gulielma (Springett) Penn and therefore a daughter of Isaac and Mary (Proude) Springett Pennington. Isaac Pennington, son of Alderman Robert Penington of London and his wife Abigail Allen, was married in 1654 to Lady Mary (Proude) Springett, b. 1724/5, daughter of Sir John Proude of Kent, and his wife Anne Fagg and widow of Sir William Springett. Her daughter by her first husband, Gulielma Springett, was b. 1644, and married William Penn. Isaac and Lady Mary Penington had children:
John b. ca. 1655, d. 8 May 1710
Mary b. 1657
William b. 3 Aug. 1665, married an Elizabeth, and had son Isaac b. 1691,
daughter Mary b. 1692, daughter Hannah b. 1693/4, d. 1696. William d.
by 1703, for his widow Elizabeth mar. 2nd on 1 Feb. 1704/5 to Robert Plumstead
Edward b. 1667, M have come to America as a Surveyor-General, and married Sarah Jennings, daughter of Samuel Jennings of west New Jersey- their son may have been the Isaac Penington who married Ann Biles and became Sheriff of Bucks Co.
Isaac Penington, minister, died at Godneston, near Faversham, Kent, on 8 Oct. 1679, having been b. 1616. His widow, Mary, died at Woodside, Amersham, Buckinghamshire, 18 Sept. 1682. They had lived at Chalfont, Buckinghamshire.
In all of this there is no indication the Isaac and Mary Penington ever had a daughter Rachel, or that such a daughter married Edward Beeson. It seems much more likely that she belonged to one of the several Pennington families who did live in Lancashire in that period, and some of these were Quakers after 1652.

Hi gang!
Just for starters, here's my first 5 generations of Beesons, starting Edward and Rachel (Pennington) Beeson:

To all researchers of the Rachel Pennington line (wife of Edward Beeson) Important news: Jim Dawson of the Lauderdale Department of Archives and History in Meridian, MS sends what he interprets as the most complete information on Rachel Pennington's line. As many of you know, Henry Hart Beeson's book portrayed Rachel as the daughter of Isaac Pennington and half-sister to Maria Springett who married William Penn.
Here is what Jim says:
Sir William Springett m. Mary. They gave birth to Marie, who married William Penn. Mary, wife of Sir William Springett m. 2nd Isaac Pennington, Jr. They had Mary (so she was half-sister to Marie). Mary married Daniel Wharley.
Isaac Pennington m. 2nd Rachel (?). They had a daughter Rachel, who married Edward Beeson.
This Rachel, daughter of Isaac Pennington was half-sister to Mary Pennington Wharley. According to this, then, Rachel Pennington Beeson was not a half-sister to the wife of William Penn.
William Penn granted 1250 acres of land in PA to Mary Pennington Wharley, his wife's half sister. This same land was passed from Mary to her half-sister, Rachel (then to Edward Beeson I in 1704).
So - Edward Beeson m. the half-sister of the half-sister of the woman who married William Penn.
He goes on to say that the information comes from more than one source: Edward S. Everett, copied from Western Research Historical Society in Cleveland, OH and Detroit Society Genealogical Research magazine, Dec. 1957 by Ruth Fielding Welch, Ohltown, OH.
Jim Dawson will soon be publishing a new book about the Beeson family in which this information will be presented. Anyone interested can e-mail Jim at lcdah@cybertron.com
He says that no queries can be answered via e-mail regarding family lines, but that he will refer you to staff who can do lookups for $. However, anyone interested in sharing their lines (Beeson's) is encouraged to correspond.
