Grace,
The father of Mary Ann Jackson and Barbara Jackson was Needham Jackson. The following information was taken from various census, cemetery, and marriage records, plus family notes from Harold, Karen and other Jackson descendants.
Needham Jackson was born about 1795 in NC. His first wife's name is thought to be Sabra. They were the parents of:
- Martha P. Jackson, b. 1814 in KY - married James H. Highfill on 25 Apr 1838 in Hardeman Co., TN
- Ebby Jackson, b. abt 1817, Morgan Co., KY - married John L. Ash on 4 Aug 1835 in Hardeman Co., TN
- Mary Ann Jackson, b. abt 1820, Morgan Co., KY - married Thomas J. Case, Sr. on 24 Jun 1840 in Hardeman County, Tennessee
- Nancy Jackson, b. 24 Feb 1824, Morgan Co., KY - married James H. McMillan on 22 Mar 1842 in Hardeman Co., TN
- Margaret Jackson, b. abt 1825, Hardeman Co., TN - married Lewis Hill on 19 Dec 1848 in Hardeman Co., TN
- Barbara Jackson, b. 18 Dec 1827, Hardeman Co., TN - married Martin Case, Sr. on 2 Jan 1845 in Hardeman Co., TN
- Frances Jackson, b. 3 Apr 1831, Hardeman Co., TN - married Everett
Jackson Needham's second wife was named Hannah Casey. We think that Casey was her married name, and her maiden name is unknown. She was born about 1795 in NC. They were married 26 Jan 1834 in Hardeman Co., TN and were the parents of:
- Sabra Miriam Jackson, b. abt 1835, Hardeman Co., TN - married John LeMasters on 25 Dec 1856 in Polk Co., MO
- Needham Green Cornelius Martin Silas Steven Eric Isaac John Jackson, b. 1837, Hardeman Co., TN - married Mary Elizabeth Triplett on 6 Apr 1871 in Dallas Co., MO.
As you can see, the last child had quite a name. We suspect that after eight girls, Needham #1 finally had a boy, and in celebration of this, named him after both grandfathers and all the uncles.
Needham Jackson is found on the 1820 Morgan Co., KY census, living close to a Martin Jackson and an Isaac Jackson. Then he shows up on the 1830, 1840 and 1850 Hardeman Co., TN census living one door away from Jeremiah Highfill. Apparently, he moved his family to MO in the same migration that included the Highfill, Case, Rowland, McMillan, Norton, Fortner families, as well as others. He is found on the 1860 Dallas Co. census, but must have died before the 1870 census. At this time we have no death date or burial place for him.
We know Martha stayed in Hardeman Co., and Ebby probably did, too. Of course, Mary Ann and Barbara moved to MO, as well as Nancy and Frances. I don't know about Margaret. Sabra and her husband John LeMasters are on found on the 1860 Dallas Co. census next to the cluster of Case families.
Needham GCMSSEIJ Jackson lived in Dallas Co., MO all his life.
-------
Now, the 64$ question - was the NC Jackson family related to the MS Jackson family. I think there is the possibility, but don't know for sure. At the present time, I believe our illustrious Case family was originally from the Old Buncome Co., NC area before moving across the state line into GA, and then on into MS. (That, my friends, is a whole 'nother e-mail.) And the Jackson and Case families may have known each other from a connection in NC. There is another Case family in McNairy Co. at the same time as ours that was from NC, and I believe they had some kind of connection to our Case gang.
Children of NEEDHAM JACKSON and HANNAH CASEY are:
viii. SABRA MIRIAM2 JACKSON, b. Abt. 1835, Hardeman County, Tennessee; m. JOHN LEMASTERS, 25 December 1856, Polk County, Missouri.ix. NEEDHAM G.C.M.S.S.E.I.J. JACKSON, b. 1837; m. MARY ELIZABETH TRIBLETT, 06 April 1871, Dallas County, Missouri.
