Hi Cuz: You probably haven't heard from John Paul Smith because he quit researching for a while. He has worked at it for several years and just got burned out until I found some clues here in AR, which really plugged a hole in the Case research, and he became interested once again.
As I told you, my husband is from Hiram Case and so is John Paul. Hiram's son, Thomas Jefferson (my husband's ggrandpa), was on MS census records with wife, Mary. MS marriage records show he married a Mary Jane Hemphill. His first child was Mary Jane. Records always showed wife Mary born in AR and her tombstone reads, Mary J. Tucker. We thought she might have been married before which would account for the two names (Hemphill/Tucker). Lo and behold, I was researching my own family in Clark Co., AR and ran across a fantastic history of the county with several interesting family biographies on Tuckers, Jacksons, and Garners, with Tuckers moving from McNairy Co., TN to MS and on to Clark Co., AR and the Jacksons & Garners leaving McNairy Co., TN for Clark Co., AR. One of the Tucker write-ups stated that Mary Ann Tucker married Thomas Case and a Garner write-up stated that a Nancy Garner married Jesse Case. 1860 AR census shows Thomas & Jesse living with Nancy Garner's family and the mother's maiden name was Jackson. Thomas & Jesse Case were brothers and their mother was a Jackson. I also found their marriage records.
I have never met John Paul, but had heard a lot about him. I called and gave him the Clark Co., AR info and sent him copies of the biographies and census data. He went to Jackson, MS and checked McNairy Co., TN census and I went to the local Mormon Library and found some of the Case records in TN and the Highfills in MO. I checked Dallas Co., and Webster Co., MO for the Highfills and the Cases. Of course, I did not find William & Nancy Case, but I found clues in Mormon records and my plan was to check Polk Co., MO next. He is almost sure that the William we are talking about is the same one that lived in MS until he went to TN with Hiram. And, if I'm not mistaken, I think John Paul told me that William and Hiram paid MS taxes in 1824, so that would take care of Eliza's 1823 MS birth and since Martin was born in Mar 1825, they could very well have left right afterwards for TN. I have never heard or have any knowledge of a trip from MS to GA and then to TN. I am going to call John Paul this afternoon to see if he will be home next Thursday. If so, I'm going to visit him. I'll let you know about the years William paid MS taxes.
I've glanced quickly over the data you sent, and the wrong dates were my fault. I called myself proofreading, but apparently didn't look close enough.
Here are the Polk Co.MO marriages I found at the Mormon Library:
CASE, Barbara P. - William A. Literal - 3 May 1866
" Charles Bolivar - Sarah Margaret Ross - 11 Mar 1852
" Barbara - J. S. Rolen - 12 Jan 1873
" H. J. - M. E. Creed - 16 Oct 1882
" Isham - Molsey Spivey - 9 Dec 1858
" J. J. - Teeny Cross - 16 Feb 1885
" James Thomas - Mary Jane Hoffman - 15 Feb 1874
" John Jackson - Lucinda Jane Prater - 9 Nov 1876
Do you have any data on any of above? I know who Isham belongs to.
Notes for ELIZABETH JACKSON:
From: gcase@arkansas.net (Grace Case)
There was a John Jackson on the 1820 MS census with 3 girls 10-16. I think he was probably the father of Elizabeth Jackson who married Hiram Case in 1824. Elizabeth named her first son John. He was born in TN. Hiram and Elizabeth's sons, Thomas and Jesse left MS 1859/1860 and showed up on Clark Co., AR 1860 census living with Susan Jackson and husband, Peter Garner. Susan Jackson, father unknown, had sister, Lucinda, who married Goodin Deaton. 1860 Clark Co., census shows Barbra Jackson, known mother of Susan and Lucinda, living with daughter, Lucinda Deaton.
