Hi,
I recently saw an email posting from you that indicates that you have interest in an Austin family. I too am have an Austin line. I apologize in advance for the detail below, but hopefully, you will find it interesting.
My oldest Austin relative that I have "for sure" connection with is Absalom (Abner) Chrisfield Austin, Sr born 8 Nov, 1812 in Burke Co, NC. He married first Nancy Presnell or Preston in 1833. They had 10 children between 1834 and 1852. Later, Abner married Nancy Gass and they had three children between 1863 and 1876. Nancy died in 1869 and Abner died in 1872.
The first daughter of Abner and his first wife was Temperance (Tempy) Austin born 13 Aug 1836 in Burke Co, NC. She married John Case in 1858. Abner's second daughter, Mary (Polly) Austin, was born 10 Mar 1840 in Burke Co, NC. She married Rial Barnett ca 1865 at Greasy Creek, Dallas Co, MO. They are my 3rd great-grandparents.
Rial Barnett's son, William Monroe Cawdra (Billie) Barnett was born 3 Apr 1853 in Marion, Crittenden Co, AR. Billie's mother was not Mary Austin but Rial's first wife, Elizabeth Barham. Elizabeth and Billie were married in about 1845......also at Greasy Creek, Dallas Co, MO. After Elizabeth's death, Rial returned to Dallas Co. where he married Mary (Polly) Austin as I stated above.
On 19 July 1874, Billie Barnett married Mary Jane Case who was the daughter of John Case and Tempy Austin. In other words, Billie married his step-mother's niece. Certainly nothing wrong with that, but it gives me one less set of 4th great-grand-parents.
I have seen that some believe that Elijah Austin (born ca 1774) was Abner's father and that Elijah's father was a William Austin (born ca 1720), and that William's father was John Austin (born ca 1695), and that his father was Samuel Austin (born 1654).
I would love to be able to connect with this older generations, but I want to make sure that I'm not just copying names and dates without the sources to go with it. I would really appreciate any help you might be able to give me to help find these sources. Thank you very much for your help.
Jerry
Notes for NANCY PRESTON:
Dallas Co History lists her name as Preston, but no Preston families listed in Burke Co, NC. There are lots of Presnell families listed in Burke Co, NC.

Hi Jerry,
Sorry it took forever to answer. I do not know much about the Gass family except what I have written below. I too am from the Absalom C. Austin and Nancy Preston family through their son Daniel Austin + Ann Elizabeth Clark and their son William Riley Austin + Lavanna Lipe and their son Lloyd John Austin + Amie Smith their daughter Mabel Austin + Harold Jones were my Mother and Father.
On our Nancy Preston all I was able to find out about her is her fathers name:
Benjamin Preston.
This is what I have on the Gass family
Samuel Alexander Gass married Pricilla Williams
The 2 Children I know that were theirs were
Nancy Gass 1829-1869 m. Absalom C Austin
Mary Minerva Gass May 11, 1830 - 1905 m. John Burgess and Henry Mark Knabb
Mary was born in Bedford Co.TN (my note: It might be that Nancy was also born there seeing there was only one year between them.)
