You got me! My Dad is a Hunter dec. also: Joseph Hunter's sister Malinda Hunter that md Chaney Lynch is his gg-grand mother. He was raised in Blue Spring Hollow, Speedwell, Union Co., TN. Mother was raised at the foot of Jone's Ridge, Speedwell, Claiborne Co., TN. These two places are about 2 miles from each other.
Yes, I was born in Finncastle, Campbell Co., TN, raised at Arthur, Claiborne Co., TN and live in that house today!
On the Franklin, it would not be the only thing that Maw (Lou Etha) told me that did not turn out to be true. She told me her Dad was killed over an Election! I have heard another story that sounds more likely. He killed a man and the man's brother killed him. And that is why the Rogers Family cem. is on Back Valley rd. on Old Mut's property, so I have been told. The story goes: Mut sent his son in law Bill Bullard down to Mut's brother Can's to buy a grave plot so he could be bur. by the mother of his children. Can told Bill, he would not sell Mut a grave plot, he could be bur. any where he wanted, it didn't matter to him. So to avoid any more killing, Mut was bur, and started the new Rogers Family Cem. They say John killed one of Can's sons and one of Can's sons killed John. They were 1st cousins. (So the story go!!) Told by Toppy Russell, as related to him by Hassie Bullard Bolinger, dau of Sarah Rogers Bullard, sister of John Franklin Rogers. Toppy's Daddy is the g-son of Elizabeth Rogers Russell, sister of John Franklin Rogers.
I looked in my book but I can't find Major Dave's grave. If you will tell me where it is, I will go look on the stone!! I was told, it was in the Rogers Cem. on old Hwy 63 and by another it was in the Irish Cem. at Tazewell. I don't know, do you?
