There were several John Wilsons in Douglas County Missouri so this John was known as " Polecat John "because he trapped skunks for their hides.

He was an only child. He served with his father in the Civil War.

They enlisted October 18,1861 in Company F of Phelps Missouri Infantry

He was a private when he mustered out on May 12,1862
