My grandmother told me this story of her grandfather Josephus EDDINGS: During the Civil War the residents in the state of Missouri felt this war greatly. Grandfather Eddings was for giving the Negro people their freedom. He did not join the army for fighting as felt he was needed at home with his family. He had 12 daughters plus his wife on a farm in Douglas Co.

He turned a wagon upside down near the edge of the woods tying calves nearby and his daughters taking turns would put food in their aprons for their father and feed for the calves; and this way he lived for a month under this wagon to avoid the soldiers that came thru often.
