There was a James Cozby at King's Mt. He was a regimental surgeon under: Sevier. He was bold in taking chances and skillfully treated the horrible wounds of the period. He was a neighbor and friend to Sevier, and headed the rescuing party when NC arrested the Colonel for his part in forming the state of Franklin. His son John moved to Rhea county, and his daughter, Mary, was the wife of Arthur Trayner, a prominent attorney of Cleveland, Tennessee. A Samuel Cozby along with George and William Cozby were mentioned as some of those who were settlers near the head of Muscle Shoals and identified several white men who killed two Indians in that area on 12 August 1816.
There is a Samuel Cosby listed in the 1820 Maury County, Tennessee 1820 census:

1880 Greene Co census shows David G. Cozby's mother's birth state as TN, not GA.?? However, Mary's entry shows GA. She was living with her step dau and husband (Malinda (Morning) C. Rogers in Benton Twp, Webster Co, MO.
In 1883, she was listed in the Christian County Pensioners List (12309) at Kenton Post Office
