I did research last week at Virginia Tech. in Blacksburg, VA because their library has an old "account book" that belonged to my great-great grandfather, John S. Bralley, from circa 1830-1856.  He had also apparently used it as a school book in Rockbridge County, VA in the 1814-1815 time frame.  Anyway, imagine my profound surprise when I eventually got to the back of the book and he had a page called "Ages" and one called "Deaths" for his entire family. It seems James Bralley, Sr. was born in 1764 and Hannah Smyth Bralley was born in Dec. 1767.  I was flabbergasted.  Russ Bralley, Bristol, Virginia

Jonathan Bralley was born in what is now Wythe County, VA, about 1800, a son of James Bralley and Hannah Smyth. James Bralley was born 1765 and died 1854 in Wythe County, VA. Jonathan was the youngest of five children. He married Margaret Bogle and moved to Webster/Greene County area of Missouri circa 1838. His sister, Louisa Adams (Bralley) Sanders also moved at that time. When her husband died, she returned to Virginia. Jonathan and his descendants are well-documented in the public records of Missouri, as well as in the pages of "Pioneers of the Ozarks." He died in 1866 and is buried in Missouri. He and his wife had the following children: Sanders Bralley, Anselm C. Bralley, Elizabeth Bralley, John C. Bralley, Franklin Bralley, Louisa Bralley, Oliver Cromwell Bralley, George Bralley, Martha J. Bralley and Guy Bralley. I have notes on all these descendants. By my estimation, there were actually several different strains of the family of Bralley in Missouri at about the same time. Son Anselm C. Bralley married Rebecca Jenkins and had 11 children (10 girls and 1 boy) including John C. Bralley, who left descendants.
